Amid mutual tariffs and retaliatory tariffs exchanged between the United States and China, the New York stock market showed mixed signals at the opening on the 9th (local time).

The Dow Jones Industrial Average opened at 37,387.91, down 257.7 points (0.68%) from the previous day, while the Standard and Poor's (S&P) 500 index started at 4,965.28, a decline of 17.5 points (0.35%). The Nasdaq Composite Index, centered on technology stocks, opened at 15,295.441, up 27.5 points (0.18%).

The Trump administration implemented mutual tariffs against more than 80 countries at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Time on the same day.

For China, a 20% tariff related to fentanyl importation was increased by an additional 34% mutual tariff, and upon China's retaliatory action, an additional 50% was added, resulting in a total tariff rate of 104%. China also decided to retaliate by imposing an 84% tariff on U.S. imports.
