China expressed its hope that South Korea will maintain political and social stability regarding the Constitutional Court's decision to impeach former President Yoon Suk-yeol.
Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lin Jian, noted during a regular briefing on the 7th in response to a related inquiry, "China has paid attention to this (Constitutional Court) decision, which is an internal matter for South Korea, and hopes that South Korea will orderly advance its domestic political agenda to maintain stability in the political and social sectors."
He added, "China and South Korea are inseparable neighbors and indispensable partners in cooperation," stating that "China's policy towards South Korea maintains continuity, stability, and certainty."
Spokesperson Lin stated, "We are willing to preserve the original intention of our diplomatic relations with South Korea while firmly enhancing the direction of friendly cooperation and maintaining the goal of mutual benefit," and expressed the willingness to promote the healthy and stable development of the strategic cooperative partnership between China and South Korea.
Last December, China made no particular comments regarding former President Yoon's declaration of a state of emergency and the impeachment crisis, referring to it as "South Korea's internal affairs." However, when former President Yoon mentioned the "China-related espionage case" in a public address, China unexpectedly responded, saying, "We feel deep surprise and dissatisfaction with South Korea's mention. South Korea has fabricated the so-called 'Chinese spy' allegations by linking internal affairs issues with Chinese-related factors."
