On the 7th (local time), the White House said that a report indicating that Kevin Hassett, Chairperson of the National Economic Council, revealed President Donald Trump is considering a plan to suspend tariff measures for 90 days against all countries except China was "fake news."
On the same day, Commissioner Hassett, in an interview with Fox News, responded to the question, "Are you thinking of suspending tariff measures for 90 days? Are you considering this?" by saying, "I think President Trump will make that decision." Subsequently, some U.S. media outlets, including CNBC, reported that "Commissioner Hassett is considering a plan to suspend tariff measures for 90 days against countries around the world except China."
After opening at 9:30 a.m. that day, the U.S. stock market, which had been declining, turned upward following this report. However, the White House publicly stated that the report indicating President Trump is considering a suspension of tariffs for 90 days is "fake news." Following this, stock prices reverted to a downward trend.
