The civil defense forces, controlled by the Palestinian armed faction Hamas, claimed that Israel's attack on a United Nations building in the northern Gaza Strip area of Jabalia resulted in 19 deaths.

The Israeli military stated that it carried out an airstrike on a command and control center in Jabalia where Hamas DAEWON members were hiding. The Israeli military claimed that this complex was used by Hamas's Jabalia battalion to plan terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians and soldiers.

The Israeli military resumed airstrikes in the Gaza Strip last month to eliminate Hamas.

Recently, it has been reported that Israel conveyed through intermediary countries a plan to resume a 40-day ceasefire in exchange for the release of about 10 surviving hostages, including Ethan Alexander, a dual U.S.-Israeli national, who are detained in the Gaza Strip.
