On the previous day, the Citizens' Defense Forces (PDF) under the National Unity Government (NUG), the interim government of Myanmar's democratic camp, declared a temporary ceasefire, followed by the core rebel group, the ethnic armed group alliance called "Brothers' Alliance."

A magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck near Mandalay in central Myanmar on the 28th of last month. According to the Myanmar military, the total number of fatalities reached 2,886 as of six days after the earthquake. There are 4,639 injured and 373 missing.

Myanmar has been experiencing civil war for the past several years. Commander-in-Chief Min Aung Hlaing of the military overthrew the democratically elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy (NLD) in a coup on Feb. 1, 2021. Since then, the military has brutally suppressed the opposing camp, causing the conflict to intensify as resistance forces took up arms.
