Six individuals were found guilty of kidnapping and murdering a South Korean student in the Philippines in 2014. It has been 11 years.
According to local media including the Philippine News Agency on the 28th, the Manila court in the Philippines sentenced five individuals to life imprisonment without parole on the 24th for the kidnapping and murder of a South Korean female student, referred to as Lee.
The court also ordered them to pay Lee's family a civil compensation of 100,000 pesos (approximately 252,000 won), mental damages of 100,000 pesos, and exemplary damages of 100,000 pesos.
One accomplice reportedly involved in the kidnapping received a maximum sentence of 11 years.
They were accused of kidnapping and murdering Lee, a South Korean female student who was studying abroad, from a taxi in Manila, Philippines, back in March 2014, 11 years ago.
Initially, they demanded ransom from Lee's family, but even after the family handed over the ransom, they did not return her. Investigations revealed that Lee was murdered in a location in Bulacan Province, and her body was found discarded in a septic tank.
Meanwhile, a total of eight suspects are reported to have been involved in the kidnapping and murder. Of the suspects, excluding the six who were sentenced, one is known to have died, and another suspect has not yet been apprehended.
