As rumors of winning the lottery using the generative artificial intelligence (AI) service DeepSeek spread in China, lottery operators stepped up, saying it is 'impossible.'

According to Beijing Youth Daily on the 13th, Mr. Li from Wuhu City in Anhui Province, China, posted on his social media on the 11th that he won the lottery by purchasing tickets based on the numbers recommended by DeepSeek.

He wrote in his Weibo post, 'I bought a total of 5 sets worth 10 yuan (approximately 2,000 won) using the recommended numbers, and one of them won a prize of 5 yuan (approximately 1,000 won).'

'AI predicts lottery winnings' quickly spread locally. Following Mr. Li, posts emerged claiming to have won the lottery using OpenAI's ChatGPT.

However, local lottery operators immediately refuted this. They stated using WeChat, 'No matter how powerful AI is, it cannot predict winning numbers.'

They added, 'The number drawing is a physical process where the balls are influenced by air flow and slight vibrations, making it unpredictable and uncontrollable.'

Nevertheless, stories of winning the lottery using generative AI continue. 'Won the lottery using DeepSeek' even became the top trending search term on Weibo.
