Hyundai Motor and Kia ranked 4th and 5th respectively in monthly sales in the United Kingdom, a major automotive hub in Europe. This marks the first time both companies have made it into the top five together.
On the 20th, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) in the UK, Hyundai Motor sold 10,109 units in the UK last month, up 9.9% from the same period last year, achieving a monthly sales rank of 4th for the first time. In the same month, Kia recorded a sales volume of 10,043 units, a decrease of 2.6%, placing it in 5th.
Hyundai Motor has been maintaining steady sales in the UK. The cumulative sales figure for Hyundai Motor in the first half of this year in the UK is 48,778 units, an increase of 5.1% compared to the same period last year. Hyundai Motor recorded annual sales of 87,151 units in 2023 and 91,808 units in 2024, and it is anticipated that it will achieve 100,000 units this year, especially with the upcoming sales of new models such as the Ioniq 9 in the second half.
The key driver of Hyundai Motor's sales is the Tucson. The Tucson consistently ranks within the top 10 in terms of sales by model, selling more than 30,000 units in both 2023 and 2024. In the first half of this year, it achieved cumulative sales of 15,496 units.
Kia is also performing well in the UK this year. Kia sold 62,005 units in the first half of this year, an increase of 2.5% compared to the same period last year. In 2023, it recorded cumulative sales of 107,765 units, while in 2024 it reached 112,252 units. Kia's most popular model is the Sportage, with cumulative sales of 23,012 units in the first half of this year, and annual sales of 47,163 units last year.
