"Let's see this as it is this autumn."
Kia's compact family electric SUV 'EV5' is set to make a hot debut this autumn. It is a pure electric vehicle boasting ample driving range and spacious interior.
Kia unveiled the interior and exterior design of the electrified family SUV 'The Kia EV5 (hereafter EV5)' on the 8th.
The EV5 is the fifth dedicated electric vehicle introduced by Kia following the EV6, EV9, EV3, and EV4, designed for the compact SUV body type which has high customer demand. Kia plans to lead the popularization of electric vehicles with the EV5, which is the first dedicated electric vehicle in the compact segment to adopt a traditional SUV body type, offering exceptional space and versatility.
The exterior design of the EV5 is based on Kia's design philosophy of Opposites United, emphasizing a boxy yet dynamic silhouette.
The front part achieves a stable harmony between the futuristic image provided by the electric vehicle and the volume felt from the SUV body type. The wide and sturdy skid plate and hood of the EV5 give a robust impression, while the vertically aligned LED headlamps and daytime running lights (DRL) featuring the star map signature lighting demonstrate the refinement and assertiveness expected of a representative model for electric vehicle popularization.
The side of the EV5 visually shows generous rear seat space and ample trunk space through the boxy silhouette of the tailgate and D-pillar, presenting a confident image with square fenders. The 19-inch wheels are designed with geometric graphics and diamond-cut shapes, creating a rich volume through sharp pattern contrasts.
The rear features vertically and horizontally elongated rear combination lamps that strongly anchor both sides while emphasizing a sleek and wide tailgate design to highlight the SUV's refined and strong image. Alongside, the rear bumper supports the vehicle's overall stability, completing an assertive image.
The interior of the EV5 creates a calm and simple image based on boldness that harmonizes with nature, allowing both the driver and passengers to feel comfortable.
Kia has incorporated a panoramic wide display that combines a 12.3-inch cluster and a 12.3-inch infotainment system display with a 5-inch climate control display in the EV5's crash pad. The panoramic wide display harmonizes with the slim horizontal cockpit, making the interior space look even more expansive, while dynamic ambient lighting provides a futuristic feel.
Additionally, Kia maximized convenience and practicality by providing ample console storage space in the first row and installed a sliding tray in the second row to accommodate rear-seat passengers. The climate control controller can independently adjust heating and cooling functions for the driver's seat, front passenger seat, and second row.
In particular, the second-row seats, which can be fully folded flat when folded forward, can be used in connection with the luggage area, allowing various utilizations not only in daily life but also in outdoor activities. Additionally, the spacious trunk area ensures convenience in storage with the addition of a luggage board.
A Kia official noted, "The EV5 is a model that presents a new standard for the era of domestic electric vehicle popularization, harmonizing innovation and practicality in electrification technology." He added, "By providing a more generous driving range through a spacious interior characteristic of an SUV and the installation of an 81.4kWh capacity NCM battery, we aim to offer customers a variety of mobility experiences."
Kia plans to announce the detailed specifications of the EV5 (including the GT-line) in line with the launch in the second half of this year.
