The HD Hyundai Heavy Industries union announced on the 8th that it would carry out a capital struggle and a partial strike involving all members due to difficulties in the 2025 wage and collective agreement negotiations.
The capital struggle will involve union representatives and will take place on the 9th at the HD Hyundai Global Research Center (GRC) in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province.
The strike will be conducted for three hours on the 11th by all union members except for those working in special vessels and the night shift. The union will also hold the launch ceremony for the Central Conflict Response Committee on the same day.
The union secured its right to strike through a vote conducted from the 2nd to the 4th, which involved 7,539 members.
A total of 5,050 members participated in the vote (66.99%), recording 4,828 in favor (95.60%), 204 against (4.04%), and 18 invalid votes (0.36%).
The Central Labor Relations Commission has determined that there is a significant difference between the positions of both labor and management and has decided to suspend mediation, allowing the union to proceed with a legal strike.
The HD Hyundai Heavy Industries management and union have conducted 11 rounds of main negotiations and practical discussions since May, but the management has yet to present specific proposals for the wage and collective agreement.
The union is demanding an increase in the monthly base salary of 141,300 won (excluding step increments), an increase in tenure allowance, and an extension of the retirement age (up to 65 years).
