POSCO announced on the 4th that it has launched a premium stainless steel sink utilizing carbon-reduction materials in partnership with the Swiss kitchenware manufacturer Franke.
The product was created following an agreement signed by POSCO on the 23rd of last month to supply premium stainless steel materials to Franke.
The premium stainless steel applied in the product is a material developed by POSCO that increases the scrap usage rate to over 90%.
POSCO also minimized carbon emissions by utilizing self-generating renewable energy installed in its steel mill during the material production process.
Since the early stages of product development, it underwent multiple assessments by the German third-party certification body TUV SUD, and completed verification of the product's carbon footprint (PCF), securing international credibility.
As a result, stainless steel (according to STS 304 cold-rolled standards) products were evaluated to reduce carbon emissions by 60% compared to the Ministry of Environment's Environmental Product Declaration (EPD).
Lee Kyung-jin, head of the stainless steel marketing division at POSCO, noted, “We plan to actively support carbon-reduction efforts not only in kitchen sink products but also across various customer sectors, expanding our market power in the global stainless steel industry.”
