Han Seong-suk, the Minister nominee for the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises and Startups, noted on the 26th that there are many opportunities for the ministry to support ‘small businesses to grow into corporations.’
On the 26th, Han arrived at the personnel hearing preparation office set up at the Metropolitan Evaluation Division of the Korea Technology and Information Promotion Agency for SMEs and mentioned, “I think there will be quite a few links for supporting small businesses in their opportunity to grow into corporations and technology related.”
She continued, “Among small businesses, there are many people who are starting new ventures with ‘entrepreneurial spirit’ and ‘artisan spirit’ as well as those conducting various businesses with ideas such as one-person startups and businesses that connect online and offline,” and added, “There are also individuals who are already making good use of digital tools, and many others who utilize design and marketing well without digital tools.”
She further added, “These corporations also have opportunities to expand globally, and those opportunities need to increase.”
Han expressed her intention to continue the continuity of policies pursued by the ministry. She explained, “There are quite a few areas where the ministry conducts digital transformation and education for small businesses,” and noted, “The initial projects, such as the delivery fee support for Garak Market that Naver, where I worked, initiated, were also started with support from the ministry.”
Regarding the digitally marginalized, she said, “There may be individuals who are unable to apply because they cannot access online support measures,” adding that it is essential to think about what measures should be put in place for this.
Han also expressed the need for rapid execution of the supplementary budget. She stated, “The most urgent and important part I think is to quickly complete the National Assembly’s budget review for the supplementary budget targeting small businesses so that many parts prepared by the ministry can be executed swiftly.”
