Chung Yong-jin, chairman of Shinsegae Group, will serve as the Asia president of Rockbridge, a donor group founded by U.S. Vice President JD Vance.
According to the political and business circles on the 25th, Chairman Chung decided to take the position of Rockbridge Asia's president. Richard Tsai, chairman of Fubon Financial Holdings, the largest financial group in Taiwan, will lead Rockbridge Taiwan, and Tadashi Maeda, chairman of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), will serve as the chairman of Rockbridge Japan.
Rockbridge is a political funding organization co-founded in 2019 by U.S. Vice President JD Vance and conservative columnist Christopher Buskirk. High-profile figures in the U.S. tech industry, including Peter Thiel, founder of PayPal, and Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, are major donors.
The Winklevee twins, Tyler and Cameron, who donated $1 million (about 1.4 billion won) worth of Bitcoin to President Trump, David Sachs, overseeing the Trump administration's cryptocurrency and artificial intelligence (AI) policies, and investment mogul Rebecca Mercer are also part of Rockbridge. Key personnel from the Trump administration, including White House Chief of Staff Suzy Wiles, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent, Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert Kennedy Jr., Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, and Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, are also affiliated with Rockbridge.
Rockbridge is expanding its influence by establishing branches in Taiwan and Japan, centered around Korea. An industry source noted, "It is true that Chairman Chung received a request from the U.S. side to take a role at Rockbridge," adding, "The decision on acceptance is under careful consideration."
