Samsung Heavy Industries established its environmental management policies last year, which include biodiversity and a ban on deforestation. To analyze the environmental burden throughout the entire life cycle of ships, it also established an evaluation system based on seven major impact categories, including carbon footprint.

In the social sector, it was recognized for its win-win activities aimed at resolving the labor shortage among small and medium-sized enterprises, and was selected as the best organization in government-supported human resource development programs. It also established a policy for managing conflict minerals that complies with international ethical procurement standards.

In the governance sector, it strengthened independence by composing all subcommittees under the board of directors with outside directors. It also became the first in the shipbuilding industry to obtain ISO 31000 certification, an international risk management standard.

Choi Seong-an, CEO of Samsung Heavy Industries, said, 'We will establish new business models that commercialize our technologies and capabilities, and grow into a century-old corporation that leads responsible management across human rights and the environment.'
