HD Hyundai Heavy Industries announced on the 23rd that a group of experts consisting of professors in the field of shipbuilding and marine engineering from major universities in the United States visited its headquarters in Ulsan.
The group of experts was composed of 11 professors from the shipbuilding and marine engineering departments at the University of Michigan, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Stevens Institute of Technology, San Diego State University, and the United States Naval Academy.
They came to Korea to attend the 'Korea-U.S. Shipbuilding Cooperation Expert Forum' and, as their first agenda, visited the headquarters of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, where they had discussions with CEO Lee Sang-kyun and Special Ships Business Representative Joo Won-ho.
Afterward, they visited the commercial ship and special ship yards to observe the shipbuilding sites, and were introduced to the Future of Shipyard (FOS) and the integrated platform for design and production consistency that HD Hyundai Heavy Industries is pursuing for its future smart shipyard.
They then visited the Ulsan Dong-gu Autonomous Ship Demonstration Research Center, boarded an autonomous ship test vessel, and heard about the educational infrastructure development project in Ulsan City at Ulsan City Hall.
The Korea-U.S. Shipbuilding Cooperation Expert Forum is scheduled to have in-depth discussions on the need for educational and research cooperation between Korea and the U.S., as well as strategies for joint education and talent development in shipbuilding and marine engineering at the HD Hyundai Global Research and Development Center in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, and Seoul National University on the 24th and 25th.
