On the 19th, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries announced that it had delivered the 'Yun Bong-gil' 214-class diesel submarine to the navy ahead of schedule after completing maintenance at its Ulsan headquarters.
Submarine maintenance refers to all repair work performed in a shipyard with the purpose of maintaining the hull and equipment at optimal performance. This maintenance began on Jan. 30 of last year and was completed 35 days ahead of schedule.
The Yun Bong-gil, constructed by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, is the fifth 214-class submarine for the Republic of Korea Navy. Since its delivery in June 2016, it has proven its excellent performance in joint exercises with the U.S. Navy and plays a key role in strategic missions.
Joo Won-ho, head of the special ship business division at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, said, "This early delivery of the maintenance is yet another example demonstrating HD Hyundai Heavy Industries' submarine construction and maintenance capabilities, following the timely delivery of the Shin Chae-ho." He added, "We will continue to contribute to national security as a partner in protecting the maritime interests of Korea."
