The Korea Federation of Small and Medium Enterprises announced on the 18th that it held a 'Government joint briefing on the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (EU-CBAM) response for small and medium enterprises' at the Korea Federation of Small and Medium Enterprises in Yeouido, in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and relevant government agencies.
This briefing was held to support the implementation of the EU-CBAM, which will officially take effect for six items, including steel, aluminum, fertilizers, cement, hydrogen, and electricity, starting January 2026.
The briefing covered an overview of the CBAM, an introduction to the EU's omnibus package, data management for small and medium enterprises regarding greenhouse gas emissions, the use of a greenhouse gas checklist and certification manual, as well as examples of successful CBAM consulting and information on CBAM support projects by various institutions.
A successful CBAM consulting case presented was that of Cowell, a steel wire manufacturing company. Cowell shared its internal strategy for responding to the EU-CBAM alongside methods for tracking carbon emissions and process improvements.
