Hanwha Ocean and the Gyeongnam branch of the National Metal Workers' Union agreed on the 18th to mutually withdraw all ongoing lawsuits and criminal complaints.
The labor and management of Hanwha Ocean promised to take a responsible stance to resolve labor-management issues through dialogue and compromise, and to implement business sites where management rights and labor rights are mutually respected.
A company official explained, "The result of the mutual agreement by labor and management that building a cooperative labor-management relationship is essential for the company's sustainable growth and the enhancement of employee rights."
Additionally, discussions for the 2024 wage and collective bargaining negotiations between Hanwha Ocean subcontracted workers and Hanwha Ocean partners are also finding common ground.
According to the Geoje Tongyeong Goseong Shipbuilding Subcontracting Union branch, which includes subcontracted workers from Hanwha Ocean, a draft of an 'opinion approach' resembling a tentative agreement on the wage and labor negotiations was derived around 9 p.m. on the 17th.
According to the agreement, it seems that the high-altitude protest conducted for over 90 days by Kim Hyung-su, the head of the subcontracted union, atop a 30-meter high steel tower in front of Hanwha's headquarters in Seoul will also come to an end.
Hanwha Ocean is also reviewing the option to withdraw a 47 billion won damages lawsuit filed against five executives of the subcontracted union.
