S-Oil suddenly halted its recruitment process for new employees while conducting applications. The reason is poor performance due to worsening external conditions.

According to the industry on the 11th, S-Oil sent an email the day before to announce the suspension of the recruitment process for newly hired retail sales staff who had applied. S-Oil had completed document screening and aptitude testing for the applicants. It is reported that the applicants learned of the recruitment suspension while waiting for their aptitude test results.

Initially, S-Oil planned to hire double-digit numbers of new retail sales staff. Retail sales involve managing sales performance and order shipment in the responsible area, attracting new gas stations, and maintaining existing transaction management. The work areas included the metropolitan area, Gyeongsang region, Chungcheong region, and Jeolla region. According to the plan, those who passed the aptitude test were scheduled to join in July after going through two rounds of interviews.

An S-Oil official noted, "Considering the unfavorable management environment due to the poor global economy and falling international oil prices, it was unavoidable to suspend the ongoing recruitment process for retail sales positions." S-Oil is currently reviewing its plans for hiring new employees in sectors other than retail sales. The company had already hired production staff in January and is in discussions about whether and in what scale to proceed with public recruitment for office positions that were scheduled for the second half of the year.

In the first quarter of this year, S-Oil reported an operating loss of 21.5 billion won. Sales were 8.99 trillion won, a decrease of 3.4% compared to the same period last year, and the net loss was 44.6 billion won, turning into a deficit.
