Samsung SDI announced on the 11th that it recently signed a battery supply contract for energy storage systems (ESS) with the German commercial energy storage device manufacturer Tesvolt.
Under this contract, Samsung SDI will supply the all-in-one battery product 'SBB (Samsung Battery Box)' to Tesvolt by the end of June. Samsung SDI's SBB is a product that installs battery cells, modules, racks, etc., in a 20-foot (ft) container that can be used immediately once connected to the power grid. Samsung SDI plans to supply 'SBB 1.0' to Tesvolt and will start supplying 'SBB 1.5' from the second quarter of next year.
Founded in 2014, Tesvolt is a leading player in the European commercial ESS market and secured a supply contract for ESS facilities to be established in the southwestern German state of Rhineland-Palatinate last year. Tesvolt plans to produce and install its own ESS solution that combines power conversion systems (PCS) and cybersecurity systems with the SBB.
The two companies agreed to continue negotiations for additional supplies outside of this contract while also expanding and strengthening cooperation through joint promotions for future ESS project acquisitions.
A Samsung SDI official said, "Since 2017, we have been supplying batteries for ESS to Tesvolt, and we expect our collaboration to strengthen further with this SBB supply," adding, "We will accelerate our efforts in global markets, including Europe."
