Hyundai Motor Group announced on the 10th that it has signed a business agreement to sponsor the '5th Seoul Urban Architecture Biennale' hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government at the Seoul City Hall (Jung-gu, Seoul).

The Seoul Urban Architecture Biennale, held every two years since 2017, is a large-scale international exhibition that seeks alternatives to various issues arising from rapid urban growth through urban architecture.

This year's Seoul Urban Architecture Biennale will be held from Sept. 26 to Nov. 18 with the theme 'Radically More Human.' Large sculptures and various outdoor sculptures will be displayed at Seoul Open Songhyeon Green Plaza, alongside various events, including an opening forum and citizen participation programs. Renowned British designer Thomas Heatherwick will serve as the general director, creating a platform for expanding architectural culture.

This collaboration originates from Hyundai Motor Group's commitment to exploring mobility design that connects beyond automobiles and to providing human-centered sustainable design. According to the agreement, Hyundai Motor Group will directly design one of the outdoor sculptures. They plan to express the relationship between space and humans from a future mobility perspective using various materials, patterns, and facade designs.

Additionally, it is expected to contribute to the spread of Seoul's urban architectural culture by supporting the production of sculptures involving outstanding artists from various fields.

Through its participation in this year's Seoul Urban Architecture Biennale, Hyundai Motor Group plans to expand its design capabilities into the urban architecture sector and actively communicate its unique design philosophy with more visitors.

The business agreement ceremony held on the 5th was attended by Hong Rae-wook, Executive Director of Global Design Management at Hyundai Motor Group, Ahn Joong-wook, Future Space Director of Seoul City, and Thomas Heatherwick, the general director.

Luke Dongkeobolk, Chief Design Officer (CDO) and Chief Creative Officer (CCO) of Hyundai Motor Group, stated, "Collaboration with the Seoul Metropolitan Government is a practice that shows our deep consideration for cities and architecture as a human-centered mobility corporation. I hope to engage with more citizens through the exhibits produced based on the design and technology capabilities of Hyundai Motor Group."

Ahn Joong-wook, Future Space Director of Seoul City, said, "I hope that various ideas about people-centered urban architecture will be realized through this year's Seoul Biennale, allowing many citizens to experience and empathize with them." He added, "Seoul City will continue to create an even more attractive city through cooperation with the private sector."

Meanwhile, Hyundai Motor Group is being recognized for its innovative and creative design competitiveness as it sweeps the world's top three design competitions, including the '2025 Red Dot Award,' '2025 iF Design Award,' and '2024 IDEA Design Award.'
