Swedish premium electric vehicle brand Polestar operated Polestar 4 and Polestar 2 as official support vehicles for the international cycling event 'Tour de Gyeongnam 2025', held from 4th to 8th, demonstrating the real-world performance and efficiency of electric vehicles.
'Tour de Gyeongnam 2025' is a route starting from Tongyeong and passing through Geoje, Sacheon, Namhae, and Changwon, covering a total distance of 553 km, taking place across Gyeongsangnam-do. This event is sanctioned by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) and is the first international road cycling event to be held in Korea in six years.
Polestar Korea provided a total of 16 Polestar 4 vehicles throughout the entire race, successfully carrying out the main roles of team cars, including strategic support for cycling teams, athlete support, equipment transport, and emergency response. Notably, it handled field support missions without issue, demonstrating stable driving performance and control in various driving environments, including steep hills and winding coastal roads.
In addition, Polestar 4’s interior configuration, which allows for second-row folding, and its spacious cargo space effectively accommodated spare bicycles, wheelsets, and supplies, proving the high practicality of team cars in the cycling event.
Additionally, four Polestar 2 vehicles supported the operational roles of the event, utilized as various field operation vehicles including race progression vehicles. With its quiet yet compact responsiveness, Polestar 2 provided stable transportation performance without distracting from the competition, garnering high satisfaction from the organizers and participants.
The role of Polestar in this event is evaluated as a contribution to creating a sustainable sports environment, going beyond simple vehicle support. Introducing carbon-free electric vehicles as team cars aligns with the operational philosophy of the event, which aims for 'eco-friendly green sports', and proposes a new alternative to the existing team car operations centered around internal combustion engines.
Ham Jong-seong, CEO of Polestar Korea, noted, 'Through this Tour de Gyeongnam 2025, electric vehicles successfully performed their role as team cars in actual race environments, proving that electric vehicles can set a new standard at cycling events beyond mere vehicle support.' He added, 'In the future, Polestar will continue to lead the future of mobility as a brand that encompasses both performance and sustainability.'
