Global semiconductor corporation Qualcomm announced on the 5th (local time) that its subsidiary Qualcomm Technologies has acquired the Israeli vehicle-to-everything (V2X) specialized fabless corporation 'Autotalks.'

Qualcomm stated that this acquisition is a strategic decision to expand its vehicle platform Snapdragon Digital Chassis product line and enhance the establishment of safety systems based on direct communication between vehicles. The company has consistently invested in V2X technology.

Nakul Dugal, Deputy Minister of Qualcomm Technologies Automotive, Institutional Sector, and Embedded IoT, said, "This Autotalks acquisition will be an important milestone in expanding cooperative safety features essential for the connected car and autonomous driving era globally."

The acquisition price has not been disclosed, but Israeli financial publication CTech reported that it is estimated to be around $350 million (approximately 470 billion won), as discussed in 2023. The transaction was delayed for more than a year due to antitrust reviews by the European Union (EU) and the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and was finalized last June.

Autotalks is an Israeli V2X dedicated chipset corporation established in 2008, providing globally compatible solutions that support Dedicated Short Range Communications (DSRC), LTE, and 5G-based Cellular V2X.

Recently, market research firm IndustryARC forecasted that the global V2X chipset market will grow to $23.9 billion (approximately 32.5 trillion won) by 2031.

IndustryARC also identified domestic technology startup 'Ettifos' as a key player leading the V2X chipset market. Ettifos, established in 2022, is a vehicle communication semiconductor specialized corporation developing its own V2X chipset based on Software Defined Modem (SDM) technology. Last year, it successfully conducted inter-vehicle communication interlocking tests based on 3G in collaboration with U.S. Keysight Technologies using Autotalks' semiconductors.
