KG Mobility (hereinafter KGM) has signed a pilot project contract with GLASSDOME Korea (hereinafter GLASSDOME) to build a product carbon footprint system based on Catena-X in response to European carbon neutrality regulations.

At the contract signing ceremony held on the 4th at GLASSDOME (Seoul's Gangnam District), KGM's Research Planning Center Director Lee Yong-heon and GLASSDOME's CEO Ham Jin-ki were among the attendees.

GLASSDOME, a corporation managing carbon emission data, has become the first domestic corporation and the second globally to receive official certification for relevant solutions from Catena-X, an industrial data consortium led by European automakers.

Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) refers to the quantification of carbon emissions occurring throughout the entire process of product manufacturing, from the extraction of raw materials to disposal and recycling. Catena-X collects and shares carbon and product data within the automotive industry's supply chain according to international standards, making certification from Catena-X very important for exports to Europe.

This pilot project between KGM and GLASSDOME will be the first case in the domestic automotive industry to practically introduce a carbon data system linked to Catena-X.

Through its collaboration with GLASSDOME, KGM expects to establish a carbon footprint system for specific products, such as the Musso EV and the Torres HYBE hybrid, as well as respond proactively to global carbon regulations related to Automotive Life Cycle Assessments (LCA), battery regulations, and Digital Product Passports, from raw materials extraction to production, use, and disposal.

Additionally, KGM plans to gradually expand the system to integrate the total emissions of greenhouse gases directly and indirectly generated at major component parts and partner (parts supplier) factories, in line with global standards for carbon management processes.

A KGM official noted, "As global carbon regulations are increasingly tightening from management at individual business sites to management by emission sources and product types, it is important to manage carbon emissions by product Life-Cycles in response to LCA mandates and regulations," adding, "Through our collaboration with GLASSDOME, we will build a foundation to proactively respond to global carbon regulations as well as to grow and develop as a leading ESG corporation."
