Hyundai Mobis is accelerating the development of future vehicle technologies, including electrification and autonomous driving.
Hyundai Mobis recently noted that it has filed over 7,500 patents in the past three years. Of these, approximately 40%, or 3,000 patents, were focused on core technologies in future mobility, such as electrification, autonomous driving, and connectivity.
In particular, last year, Hyundai Mobis filed over 2,300 new patents, with more than 1,000 patents registered specifically in the future mobility area. Technologies for vehicle smart keys to prevent digital key hacking and high-definition head-up display (HUD) implementation are among the representative cases.
Hyundai Mobis is establishing a collaboration system among inventors, patent attorneys, and patent experts, centered around a dedicated patent organization, to support strategic patent filings. Overseas research centers in North America, Europe, and India are currently focused on securing globally optimized patents for each market through local agents.
A Hyundai Mobis official explained, "In the rapidly changing future vehicle industry, patents are becoming a key asset that influences market dominance beyond merely being tools for technology protection," adding, "We are pursuing a research and development (R&D) strategy that goes beyond simple technology development to include the commercialization and rightsization of patent ideas."
Hyundai Mobis plans to continue focusing on strengthening its global patent competitiveness to secure future mobility technologies. Currently, the company's domestic and overseas R&D workforce has increased by over 30% in five years to approximately 7,500 people. This year's R&D investment scale has expanded to the vicinity of 2 trillion won.
