HD Hyundai Electric announced on the 23rd that it has decided to supply four 400 kilovolt (kV) ultra-high voltage transformers to Scotland's SP Energy Networks.
Jo Seok, vice chairman of HD Hyundai Electric, signed a transformer supply contract with Eddie Mulholland, chief technology officer of SP Energy Networks, at the company's headquarters in Scotland on the 22nd (local time).
HD Hyundai Electric is scheduled to deliver the products in the second half of 2028. The transformers will be used to expand substations in the central and southern regions of Scotland.
HD Hyundai Electric is diversifying its European market export countries, including the United Kingdom, France, Denmark, and Sweden. Last year, it signed a supply contract for ultra-high voltage transformers worth 66.2 billion won with a Swedish power company. The amount of orders that HD Hyundai Electric received in Europe last year reached $437.75 million.
Europe is experiencing an increased demand for the replacement of aging power facilities. According to the European Union (EU) Commission, approximately 40% of the European power grid consists of outdated equipment that has been in use for over 40 years. As Europe aims for net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, enhancing power infrastructure to support the expansion of renewable energy sources such as solar and wind is also urgent.
