Hyundai Elevator officially launches the Hyundai Asan Tower. Hyundai Elevator expects that the Hyundai Asan Tower will become a hub for domestic technology development (R&D·Research and Development).
Hyun Jeong-un, chairman of Hyundai Group, attended the completion ceremony held at the headquarters in Chungju on the 21st, stating that the Asan Tower is "the fruition of the technology and trust accumulated by Hyundai Elevator over 40 years" and expressed hope that the Asan Tower will become the essence of technology for people, recalling the words of Chairman Chung Mong-hun that "technology is accomplished by people." The ceremony was also attended by Chairman Hyun, CEO Cho Jae-cheon of Hyundai Elevator, Kim Young-hwan, governor of Chungcheongbuk-do, and Jo Gil-hyung, mayor of Chungju.
After transferring its headquarters to Chungju in 2022, Hyundai Elevator had been utilizing the 205m test tower in Icheon as an R&D facility, as the Asan Tower had not yet been completed. However, with the completion of the Asan Tower at the Chungju headquarters, Hyundai Elevator plans to transfer all R&D facilities from the Icheon site.
The Asan Tower features a height and scale larger than the existing Icheon test tower. The height of the Asan Tower is 250m based on the upper gondola, placing it among the top three globally, and it is about 45m taller than the Icheon test tower, according to Hyundai Elevator's explanation. Additionally, up to 19 elevators have been installed inside the Asan Tower. Hyundai Elevator plans to simultaneously test a total of 19 elevators, including ultra-high-speed elevators rated at 1260 meters per minute, to enhance its technology.
The R&D center established inside the Asan Tower has a resident research staff of around 160 people. To honor the late Chairman Chung Mong-hun, who emphasized the importance of technology, the nameplate and the name of the "Chung Mong-hun R&D Center" from Icheon have been transferred intact.
CEO Cho stated, "The Asan Tower will be a space for answers to the unpredictable future in the changing global management environment and for a new leap forward," and he added, "Hyundai Elevator will transform into a 'mobility innovation company aimed at people' that connects technology, people, and society."
