Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power has appealed to the Supreme Administrative Court against the decision of a local district court in the Czech Republic that prohibits the signing of a new nuclear power plant construction contract for the time being.

On the 21st (local time), according to Czech media, KHNP filed an appeal with the Supreme Administrative Court the day prior. On the 19th, the Dukovany II Nuclear Power Plant (EDU II), a subsidiary of Czech Energy Company (CEZ) and the contractor for the new nuclear power plant, also submitted an appeal to the same institution.

KHNP and CEZ were scheduled to finalize a contract for the construction of two new nuclear power plants in the Dukovany region of the Czech Republic on the 7th, but it fell through at the last minute. This was because the Brno District Court in the Czech Republic accepted a request for a temporary injunction filed by Electricité de France (EDF), which was eliminated from the bidding competition, to halt the final contract a day earlier on the 6th.

The Czech government is focusing on minimizing project delays by pre-approving the contract for the two new nuclear power plants between CEZ and KHNP, so that the final contract can be signed immediately after the district court's injunction decision is lifted.

The total project cost for the two nuclear power plants in the Dukovany region of the Czech Republic is estimated to be 26 trillion won. The industry believes that the construction project for the two new nuclear power plants in Dukovany is a large national project, and that if the project is delayed, the losses could amount to billions of won.
