Global excavator manufacturer Volvo Group Korea (Volvo Construction Equipment Korea) has joined forces with Volvo Trucks Korea to provide equipment and personnel support for recovery activities in Andong, Gyeongsangbuk-do, which suffered significant damage from recent wildfires.
On the 16th, the delivery ceremony for equipment and personnel support took place at the mayor's office in Andong City Hall, attended by officials including Andong Mayor Kwon Gi-chang, Volvo Trucks Korea Chief Executive Officer Park Kang-seok, and Lee Myeong-gwan, Vice President of Domestic Sales and Service at Volvo Group Korea, who shared their intentions for mutual cooperation in the community recovery.
The Andong area, which suffered significant damage from recent wildfires, is in need of long-term recovery efforts for reconstruction of damaged facilities and residents’ homes, as well as forest restoration even after the fires were extinguished. Volvo Group Korea and Volvo Trucks Korea have decided to provide substantial recovery support, reflecting the local situation in Andong, where the supply of equipment is challenging.
Volvo Group Korea and Volvo Trucks Korea held discussions with local officials, including the mayor and vice mayor, before and after the delivery ceremony, exchanging opinions on collaboration between local governments and corporations for regional recovery efforts. This added meaning to their initiatives aimed at mutual growth that go beyond simple one-time support. The two corporations plan to expand their support to the urgently needed recovery efforts in Hadong, Gyeongsangnam-do.
Hong Seok-cheol, Chief Executive Officer of Volvo Group Korea, said, "We decided to provide this support so that the community suffering from this wildfire, which has caused significant damage nationwide, can quickly return to its daily life." He added, "Although small, we hope this sincere support reaches the recovery site and becomes a source of strength for the residents."
Park Kang-seok, Chief Executive Officer of Volvo Trucks Korea, said, "We plan to do our best for the quick recovery of the Andong area, and we hope that this support can contribute to the community residents’ restoration of daily life. We are also looking forward to the recovery efforts in the Hadong area along with the Andong recovery work."
Lee Myeong-gwan, Vice President of Domestic Sales and Service at Volvo Construction Equipment, said, "I hope this support will provide concrete assistance in the wildfire damage recovery through cooperation with Andong City Hall, and our division will continue to engage with the community and take the lead in recovery projects."
Volvo Group Korea and Volvo Trucks Korea have consistently provided substantial support for community recovery whenever natural disasters occur. In 2020, they deployed heavy machinery to assist recovery efforts in Samcheok and Goseong, Gangwon Province, which suffered significant damage due to record rainfall and successive typhoons, and in 2022, they provided excavators and trucks to support the recovery efforts after the large wildfire damage in Uljin, Gyeongsangbuk-do, as well as to prevent additional damage during the monsoon season, actively practicing their social responsibilities as corporations in disaster situations.
