The special law amendment prepared by the government to revitalize traditional markets and shopping districts was approved at the Cabinet meeting. Accordingly, the National Merchants Association (전상연) will receive operational funding and will establish a legal basis for setting up branches. The Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced that the amendment to the 'Special Act for the Promotion of Traditional Markets and Shopping Districts' (hereinafter referred to as the traditional market law), which contains this content, was approved at the Cabinet meeting on the 20th.

The key aspect of this amendment is financial support for the stable operation of the National Merchants Association. The government has enabled the National Merchants Association to subsidize or support expenses required for its operations within the budget. The National Merchants Association is a legal entity representing traditional markets and shopping districts, marking its 20th anniversary this year, but it has faced difficulties in smoothly promoting projects such as revitalizing the local economy due to a lack of funding.

A legal basis has also been established to allow the Merchants Association to set up 'branches' to facilitate regional project promotion. However, management and supervision will be strengthened due to the expansion of financial support. The government will have the authority to require the association to report on its work and operations or submit materials for guidance and supervision.

Additionally, the government will address the distribution order of the Onnuri gift certificate through this legislative amendment. It has established a legal basis for the installation of a reporting center for the improper distribution of online gift certificates and for the operation of a reward committee for reports.
