HMM announced on the 19th that it was evaluated as the top global shipping company for the second consecutive time by the global ESG evaluation agency Sustainalytics.

The Sustainalytics ESG risk assessment is used as a reference material in the decision-making of institutional investors worldwide. It evaluates a total of seven categories: corporate governance, greenhouse gases, industrial safety and health, human capital, environmental pollution, ethical management, and stakeholder management, and categorizes them into scores and five grades. A lower score indicates less ESG risk for corporations.

HMM received high evaluations in all seven categories. In the previous assessment in 2023, it secured first place among global shipping companies with a 'low-risk rating' of 15.4 points, and it maintained the top position in this assessment, conducted after 20 months, with a score of 13.6 points.

In particular, this year, there were significant improvements in the evaluation for environmental (E) and corporate governance (G) categories, including the establishment and strengthening of management targets for reducing air pollutants, analysis of climate-related financial impacts and external disclosure, and an increase in the proportion of outside directors.

A representative from HMM said, 'We will leap to become a global top-tier shipping company based on the implementation of our 2030 long-term strategy and the strengthening of our ESG management.'
