On the 14th, Daimler Truck, one of the world's largest commercial vehicle manufacturers, and FMK, a subsidiary of Hyosung Group, announced the establishment of a strategic joint venture to serve as the Korean importer of Mercedes-Benz Trucks, Special Trucks, and Daimler Buses.
Harald Schmid, head of Daimler Truck Southeast Asia, said, "We are very pleased to welcome Hyosung Group and FMK as joint partners, and this collaboration will be an important milestone in further strengthening the presence of Mercedes-Benz brand trucks and buses in the Korean market. I am confident that based on FMK's strong local expertise and deep understanding of the market, we will be able to provide sustainable value to customers, partners, and employees alike."
Kim Gwang-cheol, head of FMK, noted, "It is an honor to take on the equity and importer role for the Mercedes-Benz brand's trucks and buses in Korea, and based on our experience in importing renowned global car brands, we have built a strong presence in various industries and markets. Through close cooperation with Daimler Truck, we will further solidify that foundation."
Mercedes-Benz brand trucks and buses entered the Korean market in 2003, and in 2012, Daimler Truck Korea, a commercial vehicle corporation, was established. Currently, the product lineup sold in Korea consists of medium and large trucks and special vehicles imported from Germany.
The transition to this importer system is part of a customer-centric strategy aimed at allowing each institutional sector to focus more on customer needs. Additionally, since 2016, Daimler Truck has been establishing dedicated regional centers for commercial vehicles in key locations around the world to further strengthen relationships with local markets and customers.
FMK, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hyosung Group, has served as the official importer of the Italian premium car brands Ferrari and Maserati since 2007. Moreover, FMK has focused on strengthening customer service infrastructure beyond the simple import and sale of vehicles and parts, contributing to the overall qualitative improvement of the customer experience.
The establishment of this joint venture is expected to be finalized after undergoing the approval process of the relevant authorities.
