The results of the comparison evaluation of the ‘2024 World Car of the Year (EV9)’ and the ‘2025 World Luxury Car (EX90)’ have been published in a German automotive magazine. The recent electrified large SUV comparison conducted by the influential German automotive media 'Auto Bild' has drawn attention.
Auto Bild's comparison evaluated the EV9 GT-line (AWD) and EX90 Twin Motor AWD models. Specifically, it covered seven categories: body, convenience, powertrain, driving performance, connectivity, environmental friendliness, and economy.
Among these, the EV9 excelled in three categories: body, powertrain, and economy, receiving an overall score of 589 points, surpassing the EX90, which scored 571 points.
In the body category, the EV9 was recognized for its spacious interior, utilizing a long wheelbase of 3100mm, independent second-row seats, and a maximum cargo space reaching 2393L (when the second row is folded), receiving praise for its practicality and design completeness, which align with the demands of the European market that values usability.
Additionally, the EV9 received high scores in the powertrain category, which evaluates the completeness of the drive system, achieving overall driving quality, responsiveness, top speed, and energy efficiency, either surpassing or matching the EX90.
According to Auto Bild's measurement results, the EV9 accelerated from a stop to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds, and in the overtaking acceleration from 80 km/h to 120 km/h, it recorded 3.5 seconds, surpassing the EX90, which recorded 5.8 seconds and 3.7 seconds, respectively.
Auto Bild noted, “Despite the output difference between the two vehicles, the EV9 outperformed the EX90,” explaining that the EV9 exhibited excellent acceleration performance thanks to its approximately 120kg lighter vehicle weight and efficient electrification system. (※ Maximum output: EV9 GT-line 283kW (385 horsepower), EX90 Twin Motor AWD 300kW (408 horsepower))
The EV9 demonstrated superior energy efficiency in real-world driving evaluations compared to the EX90, showcasing the remarkable performance of its battery management system (BMS).
Additionally, in an unusual harsh condition, Auto Bild conducted a test drive covering approximately 155 km, during which the EV9 recorded an energy efficiency of 27.9 kWh/100 km, approximately 20% higher than the EX90's 33.5 kWh/100 km. Auto Bild evaluated this result, stating, “The EV9's battery management system is significantly more efficient.”
Furthermore, the EV9, based on an 800V system, supports a maximum charging speed of 210kW, making it possible to charge the battery from 10% to 80% in about 24 minutes. However, although the EX90 supports a 250kW charging speed, its actual charging time is 32 minutes due to the characteristics of the 400V system, which is longer than the EV9. In the driving performance segment, despite the EX90 being equipped with air suspension, it exhibited an oversteer phenomenon where the rear sagged during high-speed cornering, while the EV9 was evaluated for showcasing stable driving feel and performance limits on uneven surfaces and corners based on its firmly tuned chassis.
In the economy category, which evaluates price competitiveness and warranty conditions, the EV9 clearly showed a competitive advantage. Auto Bild stated, “The EV9 offers performance comparable to the EX90 at a much more reasonable price,” noting the price difference of nearly €20,000 (approximately 31.5 million won) between the two models.
Since its launch in 2023, the EV9 has won the ‘World Car Awards 2024’ for ‘Car of the Year’ and ‘Electric Vehicle of the Year’, as well as multiple prestigious automotive awards including the ‘North American Car, Truck and Utility Vehicle of the Year 2024’ in the SUV category and overall winner (Supreme Winner), sweeping various world-class automotive awards.
