Kia's compact SUV (sport utility vehicle) "Sportage" was recorded as the best-selling car in the British automobile market last month.
According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) on the 11th, 3,514 units of the Sportage were sold in the UK last month, making it the top-selling model. The Sportage also recorded the number one sales in January.
As of April this year, a cumulative total of 16,380 units of the Sportage have been sold, maintaining second place after the Ford Puma (18,241 units). There is an assessment that it may also aim for the annual best-selling car depending on the performance in the second half.
Thanks to the strong sales of the Sportage, Kia ranked second in the UK's brand sales ranking last month, behind Volkswagen, with 8,320 units sold.
Meanwhile, the UK is the representative automobile market in Europe where brands like Rolls-Royce and Jaguar Land Rover were born. According to the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA), the UK sold 664,571 units in the first quarter of this year, indicating a market share of 17%. It is the largest automobile market in Europe after Germany (19.6%) in terms of sales volume.
