The collaboration, previously focused on the Department of Chemistry and the Department of Chemical Engineering at Seoul National University, will be expanded to include the Department of Mechanical Engineering, creating a consolidated industry-academic cooperation center encompassing a total of three departments, and plans to increase collaborative projects.

Both sides plan to accelerate practical technology development and nurture next-generation battery talent based on LG Energy Solution's battery design and manufacturing experience and the foundational research capabilities in basic sciences and engineering possessed by Seoul National University.

Kim Je-young, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of LG Energy Solution, noted that "the launch of the integrated industry-academic cooperation center with Seoul National University is an important step toward acquiring the world's best battery technology" and said, "We will develop this into a long-term partnership for nurturing talent and leading future technologies, going beyond research and development cooperation."

LG Energy Solution is forming various industry-academic collaborations with leading universities and research institutions both domestically and internationally. Within Korea, it is collaborating with Yonsei University, Korea University, and Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) through contract departments and joint research centers. Internationally, it is working with the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) in the United States and the University of Münster in Germany.
