Hyundai Rotem displayed a real K2 tank at a defense exhibition organized by the Ministry of National Defense of Peru, targeting the Latin American market.
Hyundai Rotem announced on the 25th that it will participate in the 10th International Defense and Disaster Prevention Technology Exhibition (SITDEF) held in Lima, Peru, from the 24th to the 27th (local time).
SITDEF is a key defense exhibition in Latin America, held biennially since 2007. This year, key figures including Dina Boluarte, the President of Peru, and Walter Astudillo, the Minister of National Defense of Peru, attended the exhibition.
Hyundai Rotem will showcase various ground weapon systems at this exhibition. It will present its main products such as the K2 tank and the wheeled command vehicle, along with the future combat system vision involving the multipurpose unmanned vehicle "HR-SHERPA."
It is the first time Hyundai Rotem has presented the K2 tank and wheeled command vehicle in Latin America. The K2 tank is the main battle tank of our military developed with indigenous technology. The wheeled command vehicle features a real-time transmission system and screens, enabling the sharing of battlefield information even while on the move, facilitating swift and efficient unit command.
The HR-SHERPA is a fourth-generation multipurpose unmanned vehicle that encapsulates the technological prowess of Hyundai Motor Group. It is equipped with a six-wheel electric drive system and uniquely features in-wheel motors installed on each wheel, allowing for independent driving power.
Hyundai Rotem plans to demonstrate the K2 tank's mobility, posture control, and turret control in the presence of key defense officials, including the Minister of National Defense of Peru and the Army Chief of Staff.
A model of the Peruvian wheeled armored vehicle will also be presented. The Peruvian wheeled armored vehicle, based on the K808, is characterized by enhanced armor at the bottom, considering the terrain features of Peru, such as mountainous areas and tropical rainforests. A lineup of K2 platform-based tanks capable of performing missions in various battlefield environments, including recovery vehicles, obstacle-clearing vehicles, and bridge-laying vehicles, will also be introduced.
Previously, Hyundai Rotem won the contract for the supply of wheeled armored vehicles to the Peruvian Army in April last year, marking the first export of the K808, which is the standard wheeled armored vehicle of our military, overseas. In addition, in November last year, it signed a comprehensive agreement with the Peruvian Army's 2nd Army Technical Command regarding the export of ground weapons including the K2 tank and wheeled armored vehicles.
