BMW's motorcycle institutional sector, BMW Motorrad, will launch the 'BMW New R 12 S' special edition, limited to only 11 units in the domestic market, on April 24 at 2 p.m. through the 'BMW Motorrad Shop Online.'
The New R 12 S is a model introduced to celebrate the 30th anniversary of BMW Group Korea, inheriting the heritage of the legendary sports motorcycle 'BMW R 90 S' as a modern motorcycle based on the R 12 nineT.
Launched in 1973, the R 90 S was the first mass-produced motorcycle from BMW to exceed 200 km/h and demonstrated its true value through victories in the 1976 'Isle of Man Tourist Trophy' and securing 1st and 2nd place in the 'AMA Superbike Championship,' establishing itself as one of the most successful heritage models in BMW motorsport history.
The New R 12 S sensitively reinterprets the iconic design elements of the R 90 S, achieving a perfect harmony of classic sensibility and modern elegance. The cockpit fairing mounted on the handlebars, the darkly tinted windscreen, and the short seat with orange stitching sensibly embody the essence of the R 90 S design.
The chassis features a Lava Orange Metallic color that modernly expresses the Daytona Orange of the R 90 S, applied for the first time in BMW Motorrad, along with brushed aluminum applied to the fuel tank and seat hump, red double coach lines, and side covers featuring the R 12 S badge, which emphasize the rich heritage.
Additionally, silver spoke wheels, black front forks and handlebars, and bar end mirrors enhance the luxury with 'Option 719' components, which are the premium customizing line from BMW Motorrad.
The New R 12 S is based on a trellis frame that achieves high chassis rigidity and lightweight construction, equipping a 45mm diameter inverted telescopic fork at the front and a paralever swingarm with additional linkage at the rear. Both front and rear suspension allows for preload and damping force adjustments, enabling fine-tuning of the riding sensation for various driving environments.
The wheels are 17 inches front and rear, equipped with sports tires to provide excellent grip in corners and at high speeds. Coupled with a powerful braking system utilizing BMW Motorrad ABS Pro, it maintains stability even during strong braking and allows for smooth speed adjustments in corners.
The New R 12 S is equipped with a signature air/oil-cooled 1,170cc two-cylinder boxer engine, delivering a maximum output of 109 horsepower and a peak torque of 11.7 kg·m (115 Nm). It features high torque even at low RPM, providing a rich sense of torque at low speeds, reaches 100 km/h from a standstill in just 3.6 seconds, and has a top speed of 200 km/h.
The New R 12 S includes features such as hill start control for easy starts on inclines, shift assistant pro for clutchless shifting, heated grips, and cruise control, offering high convenience not just for daily riding but also for long-distance touring. Additionally, the 'Headlight Pro,' which includes adaptive cornering lamps, improves visibility during nighttime cornering, aiding safe riding.
Furthermore, various convenience and connected features such as an analog instrument panel with a classic round design, connected ride control, tire pressure monitoring system (TPC), and anti-theft alarm (DWA) are also standard.
The domestic selling price of the BMW New R 12 S is 32.8 million won (including VAT).
