On the 22nd, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Korea SMEs and Startups Agency announced that they will fully implement the 'global talent employment leading university' project to cultivate foreign students into tailored professionals for SMEs.

The 'global talent employment leading university' project aims to strengthen the domestic employment capabilities of foreign students and resolve the workforce shortage in SMEs through practical education and field projects.

Starting with the recruitment announcement in January this year, a total of 10 universities were finally selected after the selection evaluation in April. Each university will receive up to 1.5 billion won.

The selected universities are ▲Gyeonggi University of Science and Technology ▲Kyungsung University ▲National Changwon University ▲Daejeon University of Science and Technology ▲Dongmyung University ▲Seojeong University ▲SunMoon University ▲Shin Ansan University ▲Woosong University ▲Chungbuk Health Science University, totaling 10.

The 10 selected universities will recruit graduating international students wishing to work in SMEs and graduates holding job seeker visas to provide employment training. More than 200 hours of programs are prepared, including a first stage employment capability enhancement program such as understanding SMEs and Korean language education, as well as a second stage practical employment preparation program including internships, field training, or industry-academic collaboration projects.

Jo Han-kyu, the head of workforce growth at KOSME, noted, 'I will successfully lead the 'global talent employment leading university' project so that foreign talents can be supplied timely and appropriately to vacant positions facing difficulties due to workforce shortages in our SMEs' and added, 'We will do our utmost to ensure that this leads to effective support and tangible results that can be felt on-site.'
