Young Poong Chief Executive Officer Kim Ki-ho and Seokpo Refinery Director said, "The Seokpo Refinery is completely different from five years ago, and once the environmental investments are completed, it will become a flawless refinery," adding, "We will work together as employees toward a refinery sustainable for over 100 years."
On the 18th, CEO Kim noted this at the "Seokpo Refinery Re-Start Declaration Ceremony" held at the Seokpo Refinery in Bonghwa-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do. Along with CEO Kim, employees prepared themselves ahead of the factory's reoperation on the 25th after a 58-day suspension of operations due to wastewater discharge.
Young Poong presented the "four major visions" aiming to become a sustainable refinery, with core values of environment, safety, people, and community. The company plans to protect the Nakdong River and nature near the refinery through the introduction of eco-friendly facilities and thorough environmental management.
The company also set a goal to realize a zero-accident establishment through enhancing its prevention-focused safety system. It aspires to become a company that values its employees, fosters a culture of growth, is desired to work for, and forms a community through coexistence with the local society.
During the two-month suspension period, Young Poong focused on improving its environmental and safety systems along with replacing aging facilities. It conducted environmental and safety training for employees and engaged in social contribution activities such as environmental cleanup in Seokpo-myeon.
Young Poong has established and is gradually implementing a comprehensive environmental and safety improvement innovation plan worth approximately 700 billion to 800 billion won, which includes building eco-friendly water treatment systems and groundwater diversion facilities. The company plans to invest around 100 billion won annually in environmental and safety-related initiatives going forward.
