HD Hyundai launched the world's largest liquefied carbon dioxide (LCO₂) carrier. At more than three times the size of existing commercial vessels, it can transport various liquefied gases in addition to carbon dioxide.

HD Hyundai Mipo, a shipbuilding affiliate of HD Hyundai, recently held a launching ceremony for a 22,000 cubic meter liquefied carbon dioxide carrier at its headquarters in Ulsan, it noted on the 16th. This vessel, measuring 159.9 meters in length, 27.4 meters in width, and 17.8 meters in height, is the first of four liquefied carbon dioxide carriers ordered by HD Hyundai from Capital CARRY Clean Energy.

Existing liquefied carbon dioxide carriers were at the 7,500 cubic meter level. The vessel launched this time by HD Hyundai Mipo is of the 22,000 cubic meter level, making it the largest in the world. This ship is equipped with three "Bi-lobe" storage tanks that can maintain a low-temperature environment of about minus 55 degrees Celsius. This enables it to transport not only liquefied carbon dioxide but also liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), ammonia (NH₃), and various other liquefied gases.

The vessel launched that day is expected to be delivered by the end of the year after finishing assembly work and sea trials under the supervision of Capital Gas Ship Management. An HD Hyundai official said, "We will secure the market through continuous technological innovation and further solidify our position as a leading company in the maritime mobility sector."
