The Ministry of SMEs and Startups is fostering small businesses reflecting regional characteristics in collaboration with Gyeongsangbuk-do. The ministry plans to expand cooperation with around 10 metropolitan governments by 2027.

The Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced on the 15th that it has selected Gyeongsangbuk-do as the first metropolitan government to implement the "region-led small business fostering project" this year.

The "region-led small business fostering project" aims to establish a plan for fostering small businesses that reflect regional characteristics and to invest local policy capabilities to intensively nurture local small businesses for three years. The ministry plans to promote the project in cooperation with around 10 metropolitan governments by 2027.

The first project, the "Gyeongsangbuk-do small business fostering project," will be managed by Gyeongbuk Techno Park for three years. Gyeongbuk Techno Park will establish a policy cooperation system for small businesses in collaboration with 22 basic local governments in Gyeongbuk, Yeongju and Gyeongsan small business complex support centers, universities, and research institutions, and will serve as a policy hub for small businesses.

This year, the plan is to establish a foundation for nurturing local small businesses by connecting a project budget of 1 billion won with 2.5 billion won for specialized support for small businesses. The goal is to build a sustainable ecosystem for small business development by 2027 by checking and complementing the project's operational results each year.

Lee Dae-geon, the director of small business policies at the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, noted, "To effectively nurture small businesses that have strong regional characteristics, concentrated policy support through cooperation between central and local governments is necessary," adding, "As the region-led small business fostering project has taken its first step, we will ensure that the related policies successfully take root in the field."
