On the 15th, Hyundai Motor Group announced the appointment of former U.S. Representative Drew Ferguson as the new head of the HMG Washington office, effective May 1. Drew Ferguson will be responsible for overseeing communications between the U.S. government and the Hyundai Motor Group.
The new head of the HMG Washington office, Ferguson, is a four-term Republican U.S. Representative from Georgia and is known for having a strong understanding of the policies of the Trump administration. He served as a representative for Georgia's 3rd district from 2017 until the end of 2024.
From 2019 to 2023, he served as the House Republican Chief Deputy Whip, coordinating legislative strategy for the Republican Party. In addition, he was the Chairperson of the Subcommittee on Social Security in the House Ways and Means Committee and also worked in the Committee on the Budget and the Joint Economic Committee. From 2008 to 2016, he served as the mayor of West Point, Georgia, contributing to local economic development and job creation.
The new head of the HMG Washington office, Ferguson, actively supported and promoted key policies such as the revival of U.S. manufacturing, job creation, and tax reform during the first term of the Trump administration. In particular, he played a key role in legislative efforts to strengthen the manufacturing base and advance policy initiatives within the Republican Party.
Additionally, he has been recognized for his long tenure in Georgia, where key manufacturing bases of Hyundai Motor Group, such as Hyundai Motor Group MetaPlant America (HMGMA), are located, which has made him familiar with the company.
Ferguson has a deep understanding of the overall U.S. legislative process and has coordinated various policies. Based on this experience, he is expected to play a key role in further solidifying cooperation between the Hyundai Motor Group and the U.S. government and policymakers, not just in the automotive industry but also in future new business areas like robotics and Urban Air Mobility (UAM).
Hyundai Motor Group expects that the hiring of Ferguson as the new head of the HMG Washington office will enable them to communicate more smoothly with the U.S. government and respond more quickly to policy changes in the United States.
