HJ Shipbuilding & Construction announced on the 14th that Admiral Neil C. Cproski, the commander of U.S. Naval Forces Korea, visited the Busan Yeongdo shipyard on the 10th and discussed cooperation plans related to maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) business with CEO Yoo Sang-cheol and other executives.
During a tour of HJ Shipbuilding & Construction's facilities and naval vessels under construction with his staff, Commander Cproski noted, "HJ Shipbuilding & Construction, located in downtown Busan, has sufficient capacity to carry out large-scale maintenance and construction work."
HJ Shipbuilding & Construction has organized a dedicated team since last year to prepare for the signing of the Maintenance Support Agreement (MSRA) with the U.S. Navy Supply Systems Command, which is a prerequisite agreement. Recently, it has brought in former Special Operations Command Chief In Bum Jeong as an outside director after his service with the ROK-U.S. Combined Forces Command and the United Nations Command (UNC).
As the first domestic naval defense industry company, HJ Shipbuilding & Construction has been recognized for its capabilities by conducting various naval vessel MRO projects, including overhaul and performance improvement projects for large transport ships, high-speed boats, and various support vessels over the past 50 years.
CEO Yoo Sang-cheol noted, "HJ Shipbuilding & Construction has specialized personnel, modern facilities, and advanced technology for ship design, construction, performance improvement, and MRO projects, and plans to actively participate not only in the MRO business required by the U.S. Navy but also in entering overseas markets."
