The Volkswagen ID.4 sold 784 units in the domestic market during the first quarter. It is the best-selling model among electric vehicles (EVs) from European brands.
According to the Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association (KAIDA), the Volkswagen ID.4 recorded cumulative sales of 784 units from January to March this year, becoming the only single model among European brand electric vehicles to surpass 700 units in sales.
In March alone, the ID.4's sales volume increased by 8.5% compared to the previous month (375 units), recording 407 units sold, showing steady growth and gaining popularity even as multiple electric vehicles started selling.
Factors contributing to the popularity of the Volkswagen ID.4 include its excellent build quality crafted through German engineering, improved driving performance from a powerful and efficient drive system, and a range of advanced features including a new infotainment system and voice assistant, along with technologies like IQ.Light and IQ.Drive.
In particular, the robust SUV-style design, spacious interior, smooth driving feel without a sense of alienation despite being an electric vehicle, and a small turning radius contribute to various advantages that customers experience in daily driving, continuously boosting its popularity through word of mouth.
Officially launched in the South Korean market in 2022, the ID.4 made headlines by selling out its initial inventory within two weeks of its launch and received recognition for its outstanding quality by winning the 'Electric Vehicle of the Year' title twice at domestic award ceremonies that year.
The 2025 model of the ID.4, released this year, features an enhanced drive system that delivers a powerful performance with a maximum output of 286 horsepower (PS) and a maximum torque of 55.6 kg.m, while maintaining high efficiency with a combined driving range of 424 km on a single charge (451 km in the city / 391 km on the highway) and an energy consumption efficiency of 4.9 km/kWh (5.2 km/kWh in the city / 4.5 km/kWh on the highway).
Additionally, it includes a new 'Discover Max' infotainment system featuring a 12.9-inch large touchscreen, wireless app connectivity, and an advanced voice assistant called 'IDA' that can control the vehicle using natural language, along with various convenience and safety features such as the advanced driving assistance system 'IQ.Drive', which comes as standard on all models, and the intelligent lighting system 'IQ.Light: LED Matrix Headlamps', which is equipped in the Pro trim.
Volkswagen Korea plans to start deliveries of the pure electric coupe SUV ID.5 in May.
Till Scheer, CEO of Volkswagen Korea, said, "It is a significant achievement that the ID.4 reached the top of the sales rankings for European brand electric vehicles in the domestic market during the first quarter, recognizing Volkswagen's innovative technology and excellent product quality among South Korean customers," and noted, "We will further solidify Volkswagen's leadership in the domestic electric vehicle market by soon starting customer deliveries of the ID.5."
