Samsung Electronics is leading the development of the healthcare industry by using artificial intelligence (AI) technology to comprehensively assess an individual's physical and mental state and present it as a simple numerical value known as energy score.
Energy score is calculated using various data including sleep, heart rate, and activity. Samsung Electronics plans to utilize data from nutrition, mental health, and mobile usage patterns in the future to provide users with insights about their health and offer a new perspective on energy.
Samsung Electronics sees potential in AI technologies like energy score to analyze users' behavior patterns, detect abnormalities, and predict health issues for early prevention, and plans to integrate its accumulated sensor technologies with AI. This aims to predict signs of sleep apnea as well as blood sugar-related diseases and prevent them in advance.
To this end, Samsung Electronics has focused on enhancing non-invasive blood glucose monitoring technology over the past few years and providing personalized guidance that integrates continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) data. This is intended to help users actively prevent health issues based on an accurate understanding of their health status.
Park Heon-soo, Head of Team at Samsung Electronics' MX division, noted, 'We are deeply contemplating how technology can lead advancements in the healthcare field, rather than pursuing innovation for the sake of innovation.' He said, 'AI will bring revolutionary changes to the digital health industry and support everyone in managing their health more conveniently.'
