LG reported on the 6th that it held the 'LG Aimers Hackathon' competition over a period of 1 night and 2 days at the LG Inhwa Center in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province, from the 5th.
LG Aimers is an AI talent development program that reflects LG Group Chairman Kwang-mo Koo's management philosophy that 'technologies and innovations that change the world start with talent, and these are the source of national competitiveness.' It began in the second half of 2022 and has attracted 15,000 applicants over the past three years.
This event targets young people aged 19 to 29 who possess basic knowledge of AI and coding skills, and is held twice a year during the summer and winter vacation periods.
In this competition, 98 young participants, who successfully completed AI training and passed the online preliminary round conducted in February with excellent results, participated out of 2,738 applicants from the 6th LG Aimers.
The final topic was 'Developing AI to predict the success rate of pregnancy for infertile patients.' LG CHEM and Maria Hospital collaborated to set the problem and provided hundreds of thousands of data points needed to develop the AI for predicting pregnancy success rates.
LG CHEM has been focusing on research for infertility treatments since 1990 and currently holds the largest market share in the domestic infertility treatment market. Maria Hospital is a leading institution for infertility treatments in Korea.
Both sides also conducted online lectures to enhance participants' understanding of infertility treatments. Dr. Chang-woo Joo, a highly regarded infertility specialist at Maria Hospital, gave a lecture on women's infertility and fertility preservation.
LG supported the young people participating in the hackathon to verify how various factors affect the pregnancy success rate using diverse approaches, helping them develop problem-solving skills.
The contestants in the finals gained practical experience by developing AI to predict the success rate of pregnancy using actual procedure data from infertile patients.
LG plans to select the final winning teams and hold an awards ceremony in early next month in Magok, Seoul. All participants will receive 1 million won each, totaling 100 million won in participant support funds. The top three award-winning teams, including the Daesang (Minister of Employment and Labor Award) and the Grand Award (LG AI Research Institute Director Award), will each receive 10 million won and be exempt from document screening during the hiring process.
On the day after the competition, LG held a job fair attended by seven affiliates, including LG AI Research Institute, LG Electronics, LG Innotek, LG CHEM, LG Energy Solution, LG Uplus, and LG CNS.
