Volkswagen's second pure electric vehicle introduced in the country, the ID.5, is a coupe-style sport utility vehicle (SUV). Compared to the previously released ID.4, the design, space efficiency, battery performance, and overall product quality have been improved. The comfortable ride from smooth acceleration and deceleration is impressive.

The ID.5's body becomes lower towards the rear, presenting a dynamic and sophisticated image compared to the rounder and more compact ID.4. The curves starting from the front smoothly transition to the roofline at the back. The design of the front and rear bumpers, inspired by Volkswagen's performance models, adds a strong impression.

In terms of vehicle dimensions, the ID.5 is longer than the ID.4 but has a lower body. The ID.5's length is 4,600 mm, with a width and height of 1,850 mm and 1,620 mm, respectively. The ID.4's length is 4,585 mm, while its width and height are also 1,850 mm and 1,615 mm, respectively. The wheelbase, which affects interior space, is 2,765 mm for both the ID.4 and ID.5, offering ample space for the class.

Entering the vehicle, one can feel the unique simple design and spaciousness that electric cars provide. Although the rear roof is lower, the headroom and legroom in the second-row seats are not overly cramped even for adults. The trunk capacity is 549 liters (L) by default, and it can be expanded to 1,561 L by folding down the second-row seats. Even without folding the second-row seats, it was large enough to fit 2 to 3 travel CARRY and leisure items.

Like its dynamic exterior, the ID.5 accelerates lightly and nimbly with less of the unique jolting typical of electric vehicles. There is no noticeable reaction of the body swaying or bouncing when decelerating or braking. While the ID.4 was suitable for one to two passengers and urban driving, the ID.5 seems better balanced and stable for family use.

The driving performance itself is not different from the ID.4. The ID.5 produces a maximum output of 286 horsepower (PS) and a peak torque of 55.6 kg·m. The time it takes to accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h, known as zero to 100, is 6.7 seconds, and the top speed is capped at 180 km/h. All of these figures are the same as those of the ID.4. When fully charged, the driving range is 434 km (460 km in the city/402 km on the highway), slightly increasing compared to the ID.4's combined range of 421 km.

The convenience features, including infotainment, driving assistance, memory and massage functions, heated seats, and an intelligent lighting system, are diverse, but the operation method is not fully integrated into the indoor display, and some physical buttons remain, requiring time to get used to. The ID.5 is equipped with Volkswagen's advanced voice recognition assistance feature, 'IDA'.

Although the completeness has improved compared to the ID.4, there is quite a price difference. The ID.5 is launched in a single trim, priced at 60.99 million won. By applying for electric vehicle subsidies of approximately 2.15 million won, it can be purchased in the upper 50 million won range. In contrast, the ID.4 can drop to the low 40 million won range when subsidies are applied, making the ID.5 about 10 million won more expensive.
