Kia President Song Ho-sung noted that there are "currently no plans to raise prices in the United States" regarding the tariff measures imposed by the Donald Trump administration that took effect on the 3rd.
On this day, President Song stated at the media day of the '2025 Seoul Mobility Show' held in Goyang, Gyeonggi province, that it seems "too early to discuss such matters" regarding price increase plans in response to questions from reporters.
Earlier on the 2nd (local time), President Donald Trump announced plans to impose a 25% tariff on all imported automobiles. Following this announcement, the tariff measures on imported cars took effect at 12:01 a.m. local time on the 3rd (1:01 p.m. Korean time).
Song stated, "Kia has a flexible and quick response system," adding that they will research how to respond swiftly and overcome challenges once their internal direction is established.
He also expressed intentions to reduce tariff burdens by producing vehicles at the 'Meta Plant America (HMGMA)' of the Hyundai Motor Group, which held its completion ceremony last month in Georgia, USA. HMGMA is set to produce 300,000 eco-friendly vehicles annually, with plans to increase this to 500,000 in the future. Currently, pure electric vehicles Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 9 are being produced there.
Song indicated, "40% of the cars produced at HMGMA will be Kia vehicles," adding that he expects production to commence by mid-next year. He noted, "The electric vehicles EV6 and EV9 are being produced at the Georgia factory, so it seems that HMGMA will focus on hybrid cars."
Regarding changes to production and export plans for the Mexico factory, he stated, "Currently, there are none," and added, "I think it is best to utilize the factories we have to the fullest extent possible."
