The 11th ‘Mercedes-Benz GIVE 'N RACE’ hosted by the Mercedes-Benz Social Contribution Committee has resulted in contributions enabling Incheon and Busan to consecutively open child protection agencies to support and protect children who are victims of abuse.
‘GIVE 'N RACE’ is a running event aimed at promoting a culture of donation, and all participation fees are used for children or adolescents in need of social assistance. The 1 billion won raised from last year's 11th GIVE 'N RACE event was divided equally, with 500 million won each being allocated to Incheon and Busan to support the establishment of child protection agencies.
With the support of 500 million won from the Mercedes-Benz Social Contribution Committee, Incheon held the opening ceremony for the ‘Incheon Geomam Child Protection Agency’ on the 12th, beginning services such as investigation support for child abuse cases, case management, counseling and treatment services, as well as child abuse prevention and recurrence prevention projects.
Busan also utilized the received donation of 500 million won to open the ‘Central Busan Child Protection Agency’ on the 27th and commenced full operations. This will allow Busan to provide case management for child abuse incidents, counseling and treatment services in Dongnae District and Yeonje District, and to focus more on local child abuse prevention initiatives.
Through the two child protection agencies established with public and private cooperation, children in Incheon and Busan will receive systematic protection and support in facilities equipped with professional counseling rooms and psychological treatment spaces.
Matthias Beitl, chairman of the Mercedes-Benz Social Contribution Committee, noted, “With the 1 billion won raised from last year’s GIVE 'N RACE, we are able to provide substantial change and recovery opportunities for children who have suffered abuse, who need much attention and support from society. I believe it is very meaningful,” and added, “Along with GIVE 'N RACE, which can spread a positive influence in society, we will continue to work on creating an environment where children and adolescents, who will be the leaders of the future, can grow up safely and healthily.”
The 12th GIVE 'N RACE event, scheduled for April 6, is expected to close on the same day within just three hours of registration, with 20,000 participants similar to last year. Since the start of the event in 2017, the accumulated donation for GIVE 'N RACE is expected to surpass 7.6 billion won by this year.
