On the 26th, the American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM) announced that it will conduct the 'Buy America' campaign to promote the purchase of American products by Korean corporations. The initiative aims to increase imports of major items such as American energy, automobiles, and agricultural products to strengthen trade cooperation and economic collaboration between South Korea and the United States.
James Kim, chairman and CEO of AMCHAM, noted, "We launched the Buy America campaign to address the trade imbalance between South Korea and the United States and enhance economic cooperation. AMCHAM will closely collaborate with major corporations in both countries to expand the import of American products and create opportunities that generate tangible benefits for both sides."
This campaign is part of a pledge made by James Kim during the 'Korea-U.S. Business Night' gala dinner hosted by the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry on the 19th (local time) in Washington, D.C. At the event, James Kim announced efforts to establish a balanced trade relationship and enhance mutually beneficial economic cooperation between the two countries.
Given that discussions on trade and investment between South Korea and the United States are actively taking place, AMCHAM explains that the campaign holds significant meaning. AMCHAM plans to reveal specific plans for expanding the procurement of American products and services in collaboration with key corporations and industry stakeholders.
Since the inauguration of U.S. President Donald Trump, the expansion of imports of American products has garnered attention as a trade policy among countries worldwide. While President Trump continues to exert pressure for tariff increases to address the trade deficit, the intention is to seek negotiations through conciliatory measures rather than retaliatory actions.
